Am 2. November 2023 hatten die Teilnehmer der Startup Nights die Gelegenheit, am spannenden Clusteranlass der HAW teilzunehmen. Es war ein beeindruckender Event, der verdeutlichte, wie Künstliche Intelligenz und Smart Machines die Welt der Technologie und Forschung transformieren. Die vielfältigen Anwendungen und Chancen in den Bereichen Antriebstechnologie, Machine-Learning, Metall-3D-Druck und KI wurden von Suter Industries, ZHAW, A-Metall und DeepImpact präsentiert.

#### **Begrüssung und Einführung**

Peter Anderegg, der Cluster Manager von Smart Machines, eröffnete die Veranstaltung mit einer herzlichen Begrüssung und gab einen Einblick in die Clusterstrategie. Bemerkenswerterweise war die Künstliche Intelligenz (KI) bereits im Jahr 2019 Thema eines Clusteranlasses, lange bevor ChatGPT und Bart in Erscheinung traten. Dies verdeutlicht, wie schnell sich diese Technologie entwickelt und in unserem Leben etabliert hat.

#### **Technologie und Design bei Suter Industries:**

Das erste Referat wurde von Lars Jäger von Suter Industries AG aus dem Tösstal gehalten. Das Unternehmen hat seinen Ursprung im Rennsport, wo man stolz auf zahlreiche Erfolge sein darf, entwickelt aber auch komplexen Antriebs- und Energieerzeugungssysteme. Alessandro Giussani (Chief Technical Officer) stellte Suters neuen Hybrid-Antrieb vor, der in der unbemannten Luftfahrt und in Leichtflieger zur Anwendung kommt. Künstliche Intelligenz spielt dabei eine zentrale Rolle in der Optimierung dieser Antriebe, indem sie den optimalen Kompromiss zwischen Leistung, Kraftstoffverbrauch und Lebensdauer findet.

#### **Machine Learning und Physikalische Modellierung**

Markus Roos vom Institute for Computational Physics der ZHAW stellte in seinem Referat die polemische Frage, ob es überhaupt noch Ingenieure braucht, da Maschinen dank KI auch ohne Supervision lernen können. Anhand eines Projektes, das in Zusammenarbeit mit Rieter durchgeführt wird, konnte Roos verdeutlichen, wie der Betrieb einer Maschine durch das Sammeln von Betriebsdaten und Machine Learning optimiert wurde. Seine Schlussfolgerung war, dass Machine Learning dann am effizientesten ist, wenn es mit Vorwissen gefüttert wird. Somit braucht es auch in Zukunft Ingenieure, auch wenn viele Routineaufgaben wegfallen werden.

#### **Startup A-Metall: Innovativer Metall-3D-Drucker**

Andreas Kuster, CTO von A-Metall AG aus Zürich, stellte eine interessante Innovation im Bereich des Metall-3D-Drucks vor. Das Startup entwickeln einen kompakten Drucker, der den Einstieg in diese Technologie erleichtern soll. Bisher ist der Metall-3D-Druck mit hohen Hürden verbunden, da das verwendete Metallpulver sehr gefährlich ist. Besonders beeindruckend war es deshalb zu sehen, wie gründlich A-Metall auf Sicherheit und Automatisierung achtet, um mögliche Fehler bei der Bedienung ihres Druckers zu vermeiden. Die Teilnehmenden zeigten grosses Interesse und es wurden sogar Diskussionen zum Pilotprojekte angeregt, das A-Metall 2024 lanciert.

#### Die rasante Entwicklung von KI

Das vierte Referat wurde von Manuel Graber von Deep Impact gehalten, der die rasante Entwicklung von Künstlicher Intelligenz in den letzten Jahren verdeutlichte. Im Bereich von selbstfahrenden Autos bis hin zur Analyse von E-Mails hat die KI grosse Fortschritte gemacht. Graber wies auch darauf hin, dass dies erst der Anfang ist und vor allem Smart Machines in den kommenden Jahren stark weiterentwickelt werden. Die möglichen Anwendungsgebiete sind breit gefächert, einschliesslich Mikro- und Nanosensoren, die so klein sind wie Sandkörner.

#### **Ausblick und Abschluss**

Nach den sehr inspirierenden Präsentationen bedankten sich Peter Anderegg und Ralph Peterli bei den Teilnehmern und diskutierten beim anschliessenden Apéro weiter. #### Über uns

Die Handelskammer und Arbeitgebervereinigung Winterthur HAW ist 1992 aus der Fusion der Kaufmännischen Gesellschaft Handelskammer Winterthur und dem Arbeitgeberverband Winterthur entstanden. Ihre Wurzeln gehen bis ins Jahr 1801 zurück. Die HAW prägte die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung der Stadt Winterthur und trägt bis heute dazu bei, dass Winterthur ein Wirtschaftsstandort mit gut ausgebauter Infrastruktur ist.
