Es ist mittlerweile zur Tradition geworden, dass der letzte Smart Machines Anlass des Jahres im Rahmen der Startup Nights stattfindet. Peter Anderegg konnte wiederum hochkarätige Referenten Gewinnen. Der Anlass steht unter dem Titel ‘Smart Machines am Himmel – KI verleiht Drohnen Flügel’. Dabei geht es um eine Symbiose zwischen smarter Technologie und künstlicher Intelligenz im Bereich Aviatik.

Bernhard Lüthi, hat seine Ausbildung auf dem dualen Bildungsweg gemacht und ist Absolvent der ZHAW. Er zeigt, wie automatisierte Drohnen die Versorgungssicherheit im Stromnetz erhöhen. Grundlage ist ein Forschungsprojekt mit Innosuisse-Coaching, welches Basis für die Gründung von Startup [LINIA](https://www.axpo.com/ch/en/energy/digital-solutions/digital-solutions-grid/automated-inspection.html) war. Dieses hat 2024 einen Merger mit AXPO Grid AG vollzogen. Die Herausforderungen der Netzbetreiber sind vielschichtig, reichen von Wetterfragen, Energiewende bis zu mannigfaltigen Themen zur Netzsituation. Die Netzinfrastruktur ist relativ alt und somit an Kapazitätsgrenzen, muss effizient betrieben und regelmässig überwacht werden. Lüthis Unternehmen hat die Überwachungsprozesse digitalisiert und automatisiert. Die Auswertung der Drohnenflüge und Messungen erfolgt automatisch und KI-basiert. Die von modernen Drohnen aufgenommene automatisierte Bildgebung, wird maschinell bearbeitet und KI-gestützt analysiert, was eindrückliche Effizienzsteigerungen ermöglicht. Die Technik kann auch weitere Inspektionen (Seile, Isolatoren u.a.) durchführen. Datenschutzthemen werden mit Verpixelungen automatisiert gelöst. Bernhard Lüthi teilt sehr offen seine Gründungs- und Geschäftserfahrungen, was gut funktionierte aber auch wo die Herausforderungen liegen und schliesst, dass AI ein ausgezeichnetes Werkzeug sei, wenn es am richtigen Ort richtig eingesetzt wird. Er ermutigt dazu, Anwendungen einfach einmal zu testen, Systeme zu trainieren und Erfahrungen zu sammeln.

Dr. Lukas Hammerschmidt, Chief Drone Officer von [meteo matics](https://www.meteomatics.com/de/) zeigt den Einsatz von Drohnen zur Verbesserung von Wettervorhersagen. 140 Leute (davon 40 im Drohnenbereich) arbeiten beim Wetterspezialisten. Das Unternehmen erarbeitet hochauflösende Wetterinformationen mittels Schnittstellen (API) und Drohnentechnologie und macht auf Basis der weltweit genauesten Wetter- und Klimadaten betriebliche Abläufe und Extremwetterlagen besser planbar. Die eingesetzte Technologie differenziert die Wettersituation und Dynamik an einem Standort (z.B. Nebel auf einem Flughafen). Grundsätzlich gibt es unterschiedliche Quellen für Wetterdaten; noch immer häufig werden Wetterballone verwendet.  Die traditionellen Systeme haben einen sog. Observation Gap ab einer Höhe von rund 100m bis ca. 10km über Boden. Dieser Gap kann mit den selbst entwickelten Drohnen, die vertikal bis 6000 m und autonom auf- und abfliegen geschlossen werden. Die so gesammelten Daten werden für Europa in ein 1km-Wettermodel eingearbeitet. Dieses ist engmaschiger als das 19km-Modell, welches in Nordamerika vorherrscht. Die entwickelten Meteo-Basis-Stationen lassen einen autonomen Betrieb der zertifizierten Drohnen zu. Die Entwicklung war vielschichtig und umfasste z.B. auch Sicherheitsaspekte (Landungen bei Drohnenausfällen). Das automatisierte Gesamtsystem liefert Daten in die Zentrale, wo remote mit komplexen Berechnungen die Wettermodelle erarbeitet werden. KI unterstützt die Anwendungen und erhöht die Genauigkeit der Wettervorhersagen.

Prof. Dr. Michel Guillaume, Leiter des [Zentrums für Aviatik der ZHAW](https://www.zhaw.ch/de/engineering/institute-zentren/zav/), beschäftigt sich als Ingenieur seit 30 Jahren mit der Luftfahrt. Er spricht über die Die Zukunft der Drohnentechnologie mit KI und von fliegender Intelligenz. Am Zentrum, welches heute 49 Mitarbeiter beschäftigt, sind alle Kompetenzen für die Zukunft der Drohnentechnologie vereint. Forschungsschwerpunkte sind: Menschen in sicherheitskritischen Systemen, Infrastruktur der Aviatik und Atmosphärenforschung sowie Flugobjektdesign und Technologie. Guillaume macht Praxisbeispiele im Wandel der Zeit. Drohnen entwickeln sich gerade zu neuen Playern am Himmel; sie sind allgegenwärtig. Es handelt sich grundsätzlich um unbemannte Flugsysteme, für die es breite Einsatzgebiete gibt. Das kommerzielle Marktvolumen in der Schweiz wird auf rund CHF 425 Mio. geschätzt, was nur 1% des weltweiten Volumens ausmachen dürfte. Pro Kopf der Bevölkerung ist die Schweiz klarer Weltmarktleader und gilt als ‘Home of Drones’. Die kommerziellen Einsatzmöglichkeiten sind sehr vielseitig und gehen quer durch fast alle Branchen. Dabei geht es immer um Kosten/Nutzen-, aber auch um Sicherheitsfragen. Erwähnt wird die Pionierfirma Matternet, die bereits 2013 die Vision hatte, Drohnen einfach, günstig, schnell und autonom einzusetzen. Matternet ist die einzige Firma weltweit, die eine für den Einsatz zugelassene zertifizierte Drohne hat; auch in der Schweiz ist eine Lizenz vorhanden.

Die Digitalisierung des Luftraums ist möglich, es stellen sich aber wichtige Regulierungs- und Integrationsfragen. Relevant ist, dass alle Flugobjekte unter Beachtung von Sicherheit, Vertraulichkeit, Datenschutz und Umweltfragen integriert werden können. Unterschieden werden drei Risikokategorien: Mit dem [Sora-tool](https://www.soratool.ch/) hat die ZHAW ein Zertifizierungstool entwickelt. Es werden 5 Autonomie-Level unterschieden, wobei die Zukunft in den Leveln 3-5 liegt.  Die Drohen Technologie entwickelt sich weiter. KI ermöglicht autonomes, agiles und schnelles Fliegen. Dabei muss die Verarbeitung von riesigen Datenmengen, die in Echtzeit von hochentwickelten Sensoren gewonnen werden gewährleistet und auf dieser Basis die selbständige Entscheidungsfindung in sich verändernden Rahmenbedingungen ermöglicht sein, um eine autonome Navigation in einer komplexen Umgebung sicherzustellen. Die Entwicklung autonomer Drohnen und AI wird gefördert durch die Digitalisierungsinitiative des Kantons DIZH.

Die Diskussionen im Plenum und nach den Referaten runden den gelungenen Anlass ab.

#### Über uns

Die Handelskammer und Arbeitgebervereinigung Winterthur HAW ist 1992 aus der Fusion der Kaufmännischen Gesellschaft Handelskammer Winterthur und dem Arbeitgeberverband Winterthur entstanden. Ihre Wurzeln gehen bis ins Jahr 1801 zurück. Die HAW prägte die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung der Stadt Winterthur und trägt bis heute dazu bei, dass Winterthur ein Wirtschaftsstandort mit gut ausgebauter Infrastruktur ist.
